Edgewater Properties has launched a substantial renovation program for 16 Mica Lane, creating an 18,183-square foot office building near the junction of Route 128 and the Massachusetts Turnpike in Wellesley. Gregory Lombardi Design teamed up with LDa Architecture & Interiors and Tremont Construction to transform the site into an aesthetically pleasing commercial entrance.
Located on a site within the Charles River watershed, the landscape for this urban office complex harnesses the spirit of the local riparian corridor through its unique materiality and stormwater management strategies. The site constraints and vehicular environment allowed for creative solutions to design a tactile, natural aesthetic onsite. With limited space for tree planting, the site re-uses wooden Black Locust columns, whose placement references the density and informal array of the surrounding tree groves. Native grasses, trees, and riverstone are interspersed throughout the site bio-swales to control erosion and decrease stormwater volume. The project is scheduled to be completed during the Spring of 2019.
